Preppy Trends for Fall

Hi friends! I'm doing something a little different today and letting a new friend step in to provide a guest blog post. Y'all know I'm all about prep and today Jessica is upping the game and taking us to the runway for inspiration.

Here's a little bit about Jessica... she's a freelance writer who covers a variety of topics, including fashion, beauty and lifestyle. When she's not writing, she's probably watching HGTV (aren't we all?!) with her cat Georgie.

Hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think and what styles you're craving for Fall 2016.

Fall is a season of new beginnings—yes, even (or perhaps especially) when it comes to fashion. The cooler days certainly call for a style boost, with jackets, jewel tones, and cozy fabrics supplementing the classic pieces of the season. For easy, weather-appropriate ensembles, update your wardrobe with these preppy fall trends.
Fuchsia Hues
As far as we’re concerned, the color pink will always be in style. And if fall’s offerings are any indication, the fashion world agrees (for this season, at least). As Who What Wear writes, the richly vibrant fuchsia stood out on countless runways this past Fall/Winter 2016 fashion month with a laundry list of big names—Altuzarra, Derek Lam, and Chanel, among others—showing the shade in every shape and material from sequined dresses to velvet pantsuits. Rock the saturated hue in head-to-toe style or opt for a statement piece that makes your outfit pop.

The Modern Loafer
Comfortable, versatile, and effortlessly chic, flats are a classic staple that virtually every girl has in her wardrobe. After all, as Lyst notes, flat shoes have arguably become the new must-have shoe, giving us more than enough reason to keep adding to our ever-growing collection. And with so many iterations—from the ballet flat to the slipper slide—it can be an impossible task to choose your favorite. This season, however, it’s all about the menswear-inspired loafer. It's been updated to reflect a more modern and feminine style via metallic finishes, eye-catching embellishment, and pretty adornments. To channel a class president vibe, wear your loafers with ribbed or cashmere socks for a luxe, preppy finish.

Plaid Mini Skirt Suits
It’s an undeniable truth that fashion is currently obsessed with all things '90s, from slip dresses to choker necklaces and now, plaid mini-skirt sets. There’s no as ifs or buts about it—the mini-skirt suit popularized by Cher and Dionne in Clueless is back in a big way. For the fall season, designers such as Tory Burch and Michael Kors offered up a 2016 take on the look in color-contrasting tweed. Wear the trend with a simple tee for a more casual look or channel your inner '90s "it" girl and pair with a v-neck sweater and mary janes.

The Varsity Jacket
Drawing inspiration from high school, this season’s take on the varsity jacket combines a preppy silhouette with a vintage vibe through contrasting colors and luxe materials such as tweed and wool. More suggests styling the school boy-themed bomber jacket with more feminine pieces, such as a dress or flared skirt and classic pumps to give your look balance. Or pair it with your favorite jeans, secretary blouse, neutral flats, and a structured handbag for a sleek, polished ensemble that’s perfect for the office.

Pink and Yellow
Fuchsia may be bringing a bold splash of color to fall’s lineup, but there’s even more pink to be had this season in the more subtle shade of rose quartz. However, instead of pairing the pastel with more pastels (an expected match that’s more spring than fall), designers have given the sweet shade a refreshingly offbeat attitude with one of the brightest colors on the spectrum: yellow, in every shade under the sun. Take inspiration from designers like Ulla Johnson and Marissa Webb by pairing soft, dusty pink overalls with a yellow turtleneck or layering a sheer rosy dress over a marigold yellow slip.

Lilly Pulitzer Monogrammed Baby Bonnet!

I seriously can't believe summer has come to an end - how is it almost September?! I shared our awesome family beach vacay in this post and gave you a teaser of the BEST baby bonnet from Southern Baby Classics! Even better, I have a discount code for you today, read on to learn more...
This adorable bonnet is reversible, monogrammed on both sides, includes Lilly fabric and greatest of all, is super comfy to the point where Sully kept it on the whole time at the beach.
And I don't know that I'm supposed to do this, but I just threw mine in the wash and it came out perfect after our beach trip. So awesome considering all the sand and sunscreen goo that comes along with bringing a baby to the beach.
Oh and did I mention Jessica has a bunch of other Lilly fabrics too? I'm actually thinking about ordering a second to match one of Sully's dresses that I just got during the Lilly After Party Sale.
And heads up to boy Moms, she also does shorts! Check them out here.
Now for the best part, Jessica is so talented and so sweet to the point where she's giving all my readers a discount too! Use the code ATD10 for 10% any order with Southern Baby Classics until September 25th!
If this bonnet looks familiar, it may be because you remember it from Sully's first Easter this year too! Go ahead and order yours now though for last minute summer vacations and for Easter so you don't have to worry about fabric selling out or shipping times.
What Lilly fabric would you go with next? I'm thinking Southern Charm maybe?
By the way, I received this product for free, but the photos and review are 100% my own opinion. Including the fact that I can't wait to buy another one from her ASAP!

Weekend Recap: Isle of Palms Family Vacation

Hi friends, popping in with a weekend update because it was just too good not to share!
We had our family from Ohio plus my Mother In Law and Sister In Law and boyfriend in town out at the Isle of Palms for our annual beach vacation. Yes, that's right, in OUR town for vacation. Are you tired of hearing me say this yet?! :) It's just so cool we live here, a place where people vacation!
How cool are these drone photos Nick took?!
I had to travel for work at the beginning of the week, but was able to see everyone at night and over the weekend. Ry had already asked for the week off which was great because he not only got to spend time with everyone, but also got to keep Sully at the beach house.
There was a pool right where they stayed and Sully was little miss independent with her new swimmies that Lala bought her.
She also was such a beach babe! The sand didn't bother her at all and she just toddled around as happy as could be. It made my heart so happy!
More to come on this reversible monogramed Lilly bonnet in another post!
When I realized this trip fell the week before my MIL's bday, I knew we had to take some time to celebrate her. On our last night together we surprised her with a little "fiesta" at a local beach bar. It was the perfect ending to a great trip!
Gah, that was just such good family time, nothin' like it. Hope you guys have a great weekend ahead of you, just think only two more days!

We have my Nana and Papa visiting + we're packing for our Europe trip!

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale Update!

Hi friends, hope you've had a great weekend and have your alarms already set for the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale tomorrow at 8AM! Checking in quickly with a few updates today from my post on Friday where I shared my top 5 tips on how to shop

First, something Lilly has never done before! If you haven't checked your email lately, go do it now and you'll see sneak peeks at items included in the sale. Also check out some of my favorite bloggers like Covering the Bases, The College Prepster and Katie's Bliss who got first looks at what will be included.

Here's a roundup for you so you'll know what's coming tomorrow and Tuesday!
The first picture/s are from Lilly's email where they even gave prices. You can see just from those how awesome the deals are going to be tomorrow and Tuesday!

I'm definitely going for the blue and white stripe dress at the top and will scoop up that Essie dress in the upper right corner since I don't have that print and it's my all time favorite comfy dress.

You can also see below that they'll have the Essie top in the sale as well below. I have the sweater wrap below too and it's one of my absolute favorite fall pieces!

Second, Lilly announced on Instagram that they will be sharing special links on Instagram Stories Monday and Tuesday at 12PM, 3PM and 7PM ET for "extra WILD deal"s. Follow Lilly's Insta here.

Make sure to follow along with me on Snapchat (name: ephilli) and Instagram Stories where I'll be sharing my purchases and more tips!

Happy shopping friends! Don't forget to read this post to make sure you know everything you need to know to shop for tomorrow.

Five on Friday: Lilly Pulitzer SALE!

Twas the Friday before the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale and all through the blogosphere all the Lilly lovers were stirring...  You get where I'm going with this :).

MONDAY (8/22) AT 8AM the Lilly sale launches on their site (+ in stores). It's seriously my favorite sale of the year (ear muffs #NSale) and is pure joy and madness haha. So here are my top five tips on how to shop the sale. Plus, something new this year!
Sully is in a Baby Lilly Shift here and I'm wearing the Sophie Dress in Southern Charm. The Baby Shifts run normal compared to other baby clothes (ex: Sully is 16 months, she can wear a 12-18 month or 18-24 month shift) and I think the Sophie dress runs a smidge tight so size up if you want it loose.

{ONE}
Know what prints and/or styles are on your must list, plus your sizing.

There's going to be a little bit of everything, so prioritizing your "must" list is pertinent to making sure you get what you want. My favorite styles right this second are the Elsa tops, Essie dresses, Baby Lilly Shifts and Dusk dresses and tanks - note this is the only Dusk item on the site right now, so I'm thinking there will be a lot tomorrow since they took them all down, #score.
Sully is wearing the Baby Shift in Oh Shello and I'm wearing a Dusk dress (old print)

If you don't know your sizing, I would suggest going to your nearest store this weekend to try things on. If you can't get in a store, fill out your TrueFit and look at the suggestion for things on the website currently.

Find exactly what you want that morning by using their search bar and typing in things like "Elsa" to narrow down the search.
I got this top last time in the APS and it's a favorite, I would just search "tunic" if you want one like it, or "tassel". Runs large so size down.

{TWO}
Create an account and log in.

Go create an account and make sure all your info is correct, including credit card and shipping/billing addresses. You'll want to be logged in before the sale goes live so you don't waste time on that or updating your info.

Although, know that they just announced you can't log into your account between 6:30-8am ET on the day of the sale, so do it before in the hopes you'll still be on when it goes live. Otherwise, just know your username and password by heart :).
Sully's dress is actually a 2T and fits perfect now, it's all cloth up top and then a stiffer fabric on bottom, there aren't any similar online right now (good sign!). I think the Lilly maxi's run large, especially if you're short so go a size down.

{THREE}
Shop using multiple devices and browsers.

Seriously, log in on your computer, phone, iPad and anyone else's devices that they'll spare. This will give you multiple spots in line. One year, the app worked way in advance of the site, so download that for your phone.
I love Lilly's flowy dresses like this one that's probably 4 years old now. They run large though, so size down, this is a small for example.

{FOUR}
Block off a chunk of time, you will wait "in line".

Depending on how well you know what you want and how quickly things go, I would block an hour to shop. I'm always glad that the sale starts at 8AM because that means if I get a great place in line, I can usually get all my shopping done by work at 9 since I go into it knowing what I want.

You can also always go to a signature store to see what they have and sometimes you can even call in advance to buy something they have that may have sold out online fast.
This is one of my favorite dresses, the Ali V-Neck and I think it runs true to size. I'm wearing a Medium.

{FIVE}
Just shop, but know...
  • Things will go FAST! I guarantee the Elsa tops will sell out ASAP for example.
  • Having something in your cart does not guarantee you'll get it, if you want something really bad, just buy it ASAP
  • Once you check out, that's it, you've used up your turn in line (hence #3)
  • Shipping is FREE(!), but will take a little longer than normal to get to you and you can't expedite ship
  • No returns
  • No exchanges or size changes
  • But, there are lots of Facebook groups you can join to sell or exchange sizes in what you purchase, here are two I've already joined: Lilly Pulitzer APS B/S/T , Lilly Pulitzer After Party B/S/T
Bonus (NEW!): This year they'll be adding new things on day 2 of the sale (Tuesday, Aug. 23rd)!!! So make sure to hop back in that morning if you didn't get something you had your eye on or didn't see something you were looking for available the first day.

Overall just know that there might be some kinks on Monday as the volume is so high. You will wait in line, but it generally has gone pretty fast in the past, so don't be discouraged by your number at first.

Check out my post from last year to see more photos of some of my favorite Lilly styles. You can also go here to read all about the sale straight from Lilly's site.

What are you looking to pick up this year? Happy shopping!
